Rocket League Community Tournament Review, Sunday 23 July

A rundown of our recently hosted Rocket League community tournament.

Sunday 23 July saw the first of many Nativz community tournaments starting with Rocket League. This pilot event attracted 27 teams from within Ireland and from elsewhere in Europe. The event was streamed live via the Nativz Twitch Channel with Mark ‘MorkyMork’ Kelly fronting the stream with supported for the finals from Corey ‘CptPudding’ Martin.

When gameday rolled around we had teams flooding in at 11:15am to confirm their participation and prepare for the day ahead. Upon 11:45am, our stream went live with Nativz Collegiate talents ‘FL3M1NG’ and ‘MorkyMork’ on production and cast respectively.

As the day went on, demolitions were made, trickshots were hit and goals were scored but only three teams were able to fit on our podium. As the day drew to a close it was time for the finals, enter more Nativz Collegiate casting talent with ‘CptPudding’ accompanying ‘MorkyMork’ in an explosive set of finals.

In our third-place match SETU Esports, Nativz Collegiate Champions and recent UniRocketeers World Championship qualifiers, faced Team Ejam. In an unsurprising and dominant 2-0 victory, SETU Esports claimed third-place.

Next up was the final which saw J Munchers take on TBDTBD, two teams we didn’t know much about. While new to the Nativz community, their efforts in our final did not disappoint whatsoever and created quite the spectacle for our stream viewers. Although a seemingly one-sided score line of 3-0 in the favour of J Munchers, TBDTBD put up a strong fight and didn’t stop battling until the final whistle of the day was blown.

Huge thanks to everyone that participated in the event, we certainly learnt a lot, connected with some new teams and were very thankful to the team that pulled the event together on the day.

If you want to take a look back at the tournament, the full recording (or VOD) can be found here.

Our next Community Tournament is on Saturday 23 September when we’ll host an afternoon of Apex Legends! For those interested in taking part simple join the Nativz Discord here and check out the #tournaments channel in the Community Zone Section.
